Extra Fastpass Locations & the NEW MaxPass Coming to Disneyland

Disneyland announced today that they will be adding both additional Fastpass locations at some attractions as well as adding the new MaxPass which is similar to Disney World’s Fastpass+ program. Fastpass, which was introduced in 1999 at Disneyland, gives guests the ability to go to a kiosk near the attraction and pick up a ticket to return later and ride with little to no wait. The system at Disneyland originally started with just four rides and has since been expanded to 16. Now they will be adding Fastpass kiosks at Toy Story Mania in California Adventure Park and to Matterhorn Bobsleds in Disneyland Park.

The announcement also included the first details of a new program that appears to be called MaxPass that is coming to Disneyland. This program sounds like it will function like Fastpass+ at Disney World in many ways, although there are some notable differences. In Disney’s words MaxPass will…

…allow guests to maximize their experience by providing unlimited downloads of their high-resolution Photopass images and by enabling the convenience of mobile booking and redemption of Disney FASTPASS return times – all by using the Disneyland app.

Again, the system appears to function much like Fastpass+ at Disney World with two exceptions. First, as you read above it will also include unlimited downloads of Photopass photos taken in the park. The second major difference is that MaxPass service will not be free. The initial cost will be $10 a day, although the press release does not mention if that is per person, we would assume that would be the case. The announcement also says that annual pass holders will have a chance to purchase MaxPass either for a day at a time or on a yearly basis. Finally, the press release is sure to mention that the current Fastpass system that utilizes the kiosks at the rides will be staying in place and will continue to be free after the introduction of MaxPass.

Main Street Electrical Parade Coming to Disneyland Park on January 20

msep-2Guests at Disneyland Park will have a chance to take in the iconic Main Street Electrical Parade for its final run beginning on January 20, 2017 and running through June 18. This parade first premiered at Disneyland in 1972 and has been in use ever since at Disney Parks around the world.

Disney is also hosting a special preview event on January 19 where guests will get to stay in the park after closing for a special performance of the parade as well as access to select rides and restaurants from 7:30 pm to midnight. Tickets to this preview night go on sale on Tuesday, December 6 to annual pass holders and on December 13 to the general public. Tickets may be purchased at a ticket booth or by calling 714-781-INFO (714-781-4636).

Disney described the Main Street Electrical Parade as…

…treasured Disney tunes interwoven with the distinctive “Baroque Hoedown” synthesized soundtrack, the Main Street Electrical Parade brings a variety of beloved Disney stories to life in parade floats covered in approximately half a million twinkling lights. Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse and Goofy lead the way and Cinderella, Peter Pan, Snow White, Pinocchio and Alice in Wonderland are among the characters whose stories unfold along the parade route. Tinker Bell now appears with other fairies on the Peter Pan float.

Some of the parade’s most impressive scenes are the 23-foot-tall Clock Tower looming over Cinderella’s Ball, attended by elegant ballroom dancers in costumes covered with lights; and the 108-foot-long finale unit, a red-white-and-blue tribute to America. Elliot, the smoke-breathing, tail-wagging “Pete’s Dragon,” weighs more than 5,600 pounds and is 16 feet tall, more than 10 feet wide and 38 feet long. Guests will need to keep an eye out for Elliot, who disappears from time to time along the route.

Let us know your thoughts below on the return of the Main Street Electrical Parade to Disneyland Park.

Main Street Electrical Parade Leaving Disney World, Heading to Disneyland

MSEPAfter news not too long ago that the Paint the Night Parade was ending at Disneyland in September, Disney World has now announced that their Magic Kingdom nighttime parade, the historic Main Street Electrical Parade, will end its run on October 9, 2016. This parade, which started in 1972 at Disney Parks, returned to the Magic Kingdom in 2010 for what was called a “limited engagement”, but has been around for six years.

After this news came out it was also confirmed that the Main Street Electrical Parade will be traveling across the country and finding a new home at the Disneyland Park in what is again being called a “limited time engagement”.

The popular Paint the Night parade at Disneyland, which is closing on September 5th, now appears to be returning for select nights during the 2016 Holiday season before being completely replaced by the Main Street Electrical Parade. It remains to be seen if Paint the Night will head to Disney World, as rumored, after that time.

Disneyland Confirms All Three Nighttime Spectaculars Are Closing…Even Paint the Night

World of ColorDisneyland confirmed news most fans did not want to hear yesterday. Paint the Night, the parade at Disneyland Park, will be closing on September 5 as the Diamond Celebration comes to an end. In the last few days Disneyland has announced that both World of Color – Celebrate! and the Fantasy in the Sky Fireworks would be ending around the same time, but nothing had been said until yesterday about Paint the Night.

World of Color – Celebrate and Fantasy in the Sky were both shows that were probably slightly underwhelming. The original World of Color (which is returning) is widely thought of as a better show compared to the newer version of the last couple of years. Furthermore, the Fantasy in the Sky fireworks did bring some unique aspects with the projection technology and other elements the fireworks show itself was not quite as impressive to most guests at earlier shows in that park.

The big disappointment from fans though will come with the lost of Paint the Night. This parade has become a beloved show after having just been present in the park since the start of the Diamond Celebration. Now, it too will be going dark leaving a lot of questions as to what is coming as far as nighttime entertainment at Disneyland, especially with Fantasmic! down for refurbishment of the Rivers of America section of the park. We do know that World of Color is coming back in something close to its original form, but nothing else has been announced as nighttime entertainment. So, it remains to be seen what parades and fireworks will show up next at the Disneyland Resort.

Disneyland is Bringing Back the Original World of Color Show

World of ColorDisneyland announced today that the original World of Color show will be returning to Disney’s California Adventure Park this September. The original version of the show had been replaced by World of Color – Celebrate! which has been in its current state since the Diamond Anniversary Celebration began last year. Despite the new show many still felt the original World of Color was a better fit for Disneyland and on September 6, the original show will return. The final show for World of Color – Celebrate! will be September 5.

Disneyland Announced Week Long Photopass Services

PhotopassDisneyland has just announced they will be bringing back some options to their Photopass system by adding in a new week long option. Disneyland has previously just been offering a one day Photopass that cost $39, so if guests wanted the plan for more than one day they simply had to purchase that one day Photopass multiple times. With the new option, called Disney Photopass+ OneWeek, guests will get access to all photos taken during seven consecutive days of visits to Disneyland. This new program does include not only pictures taken around the park, but also select attraction and dining photos as well as special animated and magic shots.

The new product is $69 for the One Week Photopass and you can purchase it at disneyland.com/photopass. Also, there is no benefit to purchasing the pass early, you can purchase it before, during, or after your trip for the same price. The single day Photopass+ product for $39 is still also available. Let us know what you think of this great new expansion of service at Disneyland.
