Construction Permits Filed for Possible DVC Area at Caribbean Beach Resort

Disney has made no announcement on this possible rumor yet, but construction permits have been filed to allow for a large expansion project at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort. There have been rumors for a few years now about a DVC building or area being built at Caribbean Beach and it now appears as though the idea is at least becoming a little closer to being validated.

The permits say work is going to begin later this year and conclude some time in 2019. The plans include seven new buildings at Caribbean Beach one of which is a large multi story building that resembles the rumors of a DVC wing. Much of the construction appears as though it will take place in what is currently the Barbados section of Caribbean Beach.

Again, none of this has been confirmed by Disney and there is no guarantee this is going to be a DVC expansion. With that said construction plans do tell us that something big is coming to Caribbean Beach Resort in the not to distant future. We’ll keep you updated as we learn more about this project.

Extra Fastpass Locations & the NEW MaxPass Coming to Disneyland

Disneyland announced today that they will be adding both additional Fastpass locations at some attractions as well as adding the new MaxPass which is similar to Disney World’s Fastpass+ program. Fastpass, which was introduced in 1999 at Disneyland, gives guests the ability to go to a kiosk near the attraction and pick up a ticket to return later and ride with little to no wait. The system at Disneyland originally started with just four rides and has since been expanded to 16. Now they will be adding Fastpass kiosks at Toy Story Mania in California Adventure Park and to Matterhorn Bobsleds in Disneyland Park.

The announcement also included the first details of a new program that appears to be called MaxPass that is coming to Disneyland. This program sounds like it will function like Fastpass+ at Disney World in many ways, although there are some notable differences. In Disney’s words MaxPass will…

…allow guests to maximize their experience by providing unlimited downloads of their high-resolution Photopass images and by enabling the convenience of mobile booking and redemption of Disney FASTPASS return times – all by using the Disneyland app.

Again, the system appears to function much like Fastpass+ at Disney World with two exceptions. First, as you read above it will also include unlimited downloads of Photopass photos taken in the park. The second major difference is that MaxPass service will not be free. The initial cost will be $10 a day, although the press release does not mention if that is per person, we would assume that would be the case. The announcement also says that annual pass holders will have a chance to purchase MaxPass either for a day at a time or on a yearly basis. Finally, the press release is sure to mention that the current Fastpass system that utilizes the kiosks at the rides will be staying in place and will continue to be free after the introduction of MaxPass.

Let us know your thoughts on the new ride additions as well as the upcoming MaxPass program by commenting below.

Minnie’s Silver Screen Dine Returning to Hollywood Studios

Disney World has announced that they will once again be doing a special dining experience at Hollywood and Vine Restaurant in Hollywood Studios. The event, Minnie’s Silver Screen Dine, will return on January 7 and run through March 19. This event, which debuted last year, allows guests to be a part of a special dinner party with Minnie that celebrates Disney movie magic. Guests will get to walk on the red carpet with Minnie, Mickey, Donald, Daisy, and Goofy. The normal Hollywood and Vine buffet menu will be present along with some special dishes such as creamy popcorn soup, bacon-wrapped pork loin, honey-bourbon glazed turkey, and lobster & shrimp macaroni.

It is not yet apparent if Disney will bring back the other special dining events at Hollywood and Vine this year. Last year they offered Minnie’s Springtime Dine from March through May, Minnie’s Summertime Dine from June through September, Minnie’s Halloween Dine in September & October, and Minnies Holiday Dine in November and December. We’ll update this post if and when those experiences are announced.

New Quick Service Breakfast Opens at Sanaa

Disney has just opened a new quick service breakfast option at Sanaa, which is a much needed addition to Kidani Village at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge. The one negative with Kidani Village is the 10-15 minute walk you must make to get to Jambo House to have a quick service meal. Disney has at least fixed the problem at breakfast by offering this new option at Kidani Village.

Once guests arrive at Sanaa they will order at a register before proceeding to a table inside the restaurant. They will also give you a decorative “animal” which will guide the cast member delivering your food to your table. The headliner menu item is the “Boere Breakfast”, which comes with two eggs any style, tomato chutney, Tanzanian hash browns, bacon, Boerewors sausage, and a Johnny Cake. Their is also the “Safari Waffle” which has berries and whipped cream on top. They also have a vegan option on the menu, the “Fruit Sosatie”, which comes with a quinoa and dried fruit salad. There are a few other items on the menu as well as some kids options.

In addition to the menu items there is also a grab and go section for items such as Yogurt Parfait, fruit plate, Boerewors sausage and egg bobotie pie, banana bread with house made African chocolate-hazelnut spread, African breakfast cereal, assorted pastries, and fruit.

Main Street Electrical Parade Coming to Disneyland Park on January 20

msep-2Guests at Disneyland Park will have a chance to take in the iconic Main Street Electrical Parade for its final run beginning on January 20, 2017 and running through June 18. This parade first premiered at Disneyland in 1972 and has been in use ever since at Disney Parks around the world.

Disney is also hosting a special preview event on January 19 where guests will get to stay in the park after closing for a special performance of the parade as well as access to select rides and restaurants from 7:30 pm to midnight. Disney described the Main Street Electrical Parade as…

…treasured Disney tunes interwoven with the distinctive “Baroque Hoedown” synthesized soundtrack, the Main Street Electrical Parade brings a variety of beloved Disney stories to life in parade floats covered in approximately half a million twinkling lights. Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse and Goofy lead the way and Cinderella, Peter Pan, Snow White, Pinocchio and Alice in Wonderland are among the characters whose stories unfold along the parade route. Tinker Bell now appears with other fairies on the Peter Pan float.

Some of the parade’s most impressive scenes are the 23-foot-tall Clock Tower looming over Cinderella’s Ball, attended by elegant ballroom dancers in costumes covered with lights; and the 108-foot-long finale unit, a red-white-and-blue tribute to America. Elliot, the smoke-breathing, tail-wagging “Pete’s Dragon,” weighs more than 5,600 pounds and is 16 feet tall, more than 10 feet wide and 38 feet long. Guests will need to keep an eye out for Elliot, who disappears from time to time along the route.
